Melbourne

Melbourne has a cultural ecology like no other- this cosmopolitan city prides itself on both surface and substance offering its visitors and locals an extremely diverse, well equipped and aesthetically pleasing place to lay your hat and catch some rays.

Divided by the Yarra River, Melbourne was once ruled supreme by the aborogines- however settlers from Britain brought the area forward in the 1800s as gold was uncovered near Bendigo, West Melbourne. The introduction of an outside culture and attractive money source spring boarded Melbourne into its current position as cultural capital of the great down under.

This place is softly paced despite its big city bravado and comes with many gorgeous gardens and parks that make a refreshing respite from the magnificent and modern spires and sky scrapers that errupt through the sun drenched skyline.

There are over 3 million people living in Melbourne all of whom contribute to the cultural melting pot of different sounds, tastes, smells and experiences. Here you will find splashes of several different states- thanks to years of emmigration particularly from Greece.

This combination of people and cultures make Melbourne a Mecca for those looking to mix with all sorts- and that you certainly will when enjoying the restaraunts, clubs, bars and pub in this town that goes on way after sun down.

Here you will find a lively mix of theatre, literature, art and music amidst a backdrop of different cuisine and city styles to be observed and availed of.

Drop by the China town for a taste of Asia, or the Crown Promenade for an Italian. A day or two spent roaming around Melbourne may very well tire you out- unwind on the beach with a nice cold drink after you see and hear everything this amazing multi-cultural region has to offer!

Things to do

This is one of Australia most famous gaols- established way back in 1841 it is the site where Ned Kelly was hung and attracts plenty of tourist attention. There are no inmates kept here anymore- instead you will find exhibits of death masks and other historical pieces from the time. Perfect for those interested in the history of the area.

Federation Square
This is an intense new city block that boasts the most modern architecture known to Melbourne, The exterior alone is bound to impress but its what inside that really counts as these geometric designs facilitate Melbournes most social and cultural activities. Go here in search of contemporary theatre and art exhibitions- you won’t be dissipointed!

Royal Botanic Gardens
